I love my life of a free agent and independent professional, but I would be remiss if I didnt share some of the cons. Taking the Risk. There is always risk involved when we work for ourselves. Will we get enough work to sustain us and our bank account? Will we choose and/or find clients that are agreeable to work with? Will we do the level of work that our clients will be pleased with? I could go on for pages listing questions filled with doubt. My recommendation is to have faith in your abilities, realizing that if you love what you are doing, you have a strong chance that you will succeed. Risk comes with everything we do and can make what we do that much more exciting. Change Coupled with a Lack of Stability and a Regular Routine. If you have trouble dealing with change and a lack of stability, I suggest that the lifestyle of a free agent or freelancer is not for you. If just setting up a whole new routine and dealing with not having a regular nine to five job really threatens your peace of mind, you might want to ease into freelance living by taking on an extra part-time job while keeping your full-time job until you are established and comfortable in your new career. Can Be Overwhelming when Deadlines Overlap. Living the freelance life can vary from having too much free time in between projects to being overwhelmed by too many projects all coming due at the same time. We have some control over this if we have the guts to be up front with our clients about our time schedules. I usually sit down and map out my timeline for a project and then add on more time for the unforeseen and interruptions. Once I see it all on paper, I know that I can produce by the deadlines. SUPPLIES: # assorted holiday fabrics - this means anything from cotton prints to silk or velvet,why not try something really exotic! # matching thread # pins # chalk or other marker STEP 1: For each coaster cut 4 5″ squares of holiday fabric. Layer two of the squares on top of one another with wrong sides together. You will be looking at the right side of the fabric. STEP 2: Fold remaining two squares in half wrong sides together and place on top of first two squares. The folded edges face the middle. These two folded edges should overlap slightly.Pin all layers together. Trace around base of your wine glass. Stitch 1/4″ away from markings thru all layers. Backstitch on folded edges for added strength. Trim away excess fabric and turn.Push out fabric gently and press lightly. Now comes the fun part. Embellishing each one. In this article I will discuss a less important but unavoidable part of speech which you will see in abundance when you take your GRE / GMAT/ TOEFL. The sentence completion and reading comprehension questions which appear in the standardized exams require you to have a good knowledge of a variety of interjections. The problem here is that, you have a huge number of interjections in vogue but only a few will be tested. Lets see a few examples- Ouch, that hurt! Ouch, you stepped on my toe! Oh no, I forgot that the exam was today. Wow! That is a giant pumpkin! Yippee! We won! Whoa! Hold your horses! Bravo, you did a great job! Hey! Put that down! I heard one guy say to another guy, “He has a new car, eh?” I don’t know about you but, good lord, I think taxes are too high! For the first time when I was learning the concept of interjection usage, I could infer from my textbooks - 1. It’s not wise to use interjections in professional, formal, academic texts. 2. Interjections are often used alone as a full sentence i.e. they stand by themselves, but they are a part of complex sentences used in routine conversations. 3. Interjections are words or phrases used to express sudden anger, joy or emotion of other kinds. They are used to exclaim or protest or command. They are used to react when events happen unexpectedly, painfully, surprisingly or in many other sudden ways. 4. It is not always correct to use an exclamatory sign for all interjections 5. If the emotion is powerful and solitary the interjection is mostly meaningful by itself and is to be followed with an exclamation mark. *The most commonly used interjections in standardized exams are as follows - oh alas ouch Godspeed we aye aww hey yoo-hoo Yuk oh dear Oh! By Toni Coleman We hear it all the time. “He just won’t make a commitment.” “She just wants some space right now.” “I’m not sure if I’m ready for a serious relationship.” What does having a fear of commitment really mean? Actually, it means basically what it says. For SOME reason you, or someone you are involved with, isn’t ready to take this relationship (or any relationship) to the next step. So how do we know if we or our (hoped for) partner are truly afraid of commitment? How do we know that it’s not something else? Is there any real difference between these two anyway? Do these excuses sound familiar? “I’m just under a lot of stress right now.” “It’s not you, it’s me.” “I can’t focus on a relationship right now because of my overloaded schedule.” Very often, we want to accept these reasons because we fear the real truth. Other times, we are just very confused by our feelings and the often mixed messages from the other person. So, how do we evaluate our ability to make a long-term commitment? How do we know if he/she is really ready or willing? There are only two real issues here to examine. The first issue involves looking at a true fear of commitment itself. If this is the problem it’s important for the person with this fear to ask themselves a few key questions. Are you concerned about the idea of forever? Do you fear you could make a mistake in who you choose? Do you fear a loss of your freedom/autonomy? Are you afraid of a bad marriage- like your parents for instance? Do you fear you would be a bad mate? If you answered yes to any of these, it would be a good idea to begin working to understand where these feelings come from. Once you understand them better, you can choose to address them. Perhaps you need more time or emotional growth before you consider makinga long-term commitment. There can be several factors that influence your fear. Explore these and arm yourself with a plan to put them to rest.
